In 1991, Takaki Tōno quickly befriends Akari Shinohara after she transfers to his elementary school in Tokyo. The story is set in Japan, beginning in the early 1990s up until the present day (2008), with each act centered on a boy named Takaki Tōno. It received a novelization in November 2007, and a manga adaption illustrated by Seike Yukiko in 2010.
